Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your lodge in Arusha. Relax after your journey and attend an expedition briefing covering the trek, equipment, and what to expect during the days ahead.
Day 2: Arusha - Ngorongoro Highlands (walking time 1 - 2 hours)
Depart Arusha and travel to Ngorongoro Highlands. After settling into the lodge, enjoy an afternoon orientation walk through the surrounding landscape. Meet your guide, learn about the region, and prepare for the trek ahead. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Ngorongoro Highlands to Empakaai Crater (walking time 4 -6 hours)
Begin your trek through rolling highland terrain and Maasai grazing land. Enjoy spectacular views as you make your way towards Empakaai Crater. Arrive in the afternoon and overnight near the crater rim.
Day 4: Empakaai Crater Exploration & Trek to First Camp (Walking Time 5 - 6 hours)
Descend into Empakaai Crater to explore tie forested floor and soda lake before continuing your trek towards Lake Natron, Camp in a remote wilderness setting beneath the stars.
Day 5: Highlands Trek (Walking Time 6 - 7)
Continue across remote highland landscape, passing traditional Maasai settlements and enjoying panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley. Overnight at Mobile Camp.
Day 6: Descent Towards Lake Natron (Walking Time 6 - 8 hours)
Trek through increasingly dramatic volcanic terrain as you descend towards Lake Natron basin. Enjoy unforgettable view of Ol Doinyo Lengai and the surrounding Rift Valley. Overnight near Lake Natron.
Day 7: Lake Natron Exploration (Walking Time 3 - 5)
Explore the Lake Natron area on foot, visit waterfalls, observe flamingos when conditions allow, and cultural interactions with local Maasai communities. Overnight At a lodge at Lake Natron.
Day 8: Return to Arusha & Farewell Celebration
After breakfast, begin the return journey to Arusha. Upon arrival, enjoy a farewell gathering where we reflect on the highlights of the expedition, share stories from trail, and celebrate your achievement. Depending on your travel plans, relax before your airport transfer or onward accommodation.
Fitness Level: Moderate to challenging. Participants should be comfortable walking 4 - 8 hours per day on uneven terrain and carrying small daypack while the support crew and pack of donkey’s transport camping equipment and main luggage.
